Charles S. Dilbeck Designed this Home Which Still Enjoys it’s Original Architectural Detail

Architect Charles Dilbeck has always captured the imagination of Dallas with his charming and well composed architecture that brings out the characteristics of whimsical English cottages and the indigenous qualities of Texas Modern homes. This architecturally significant Charles Dilbeck home at 4676 Lorraine Avenue is reminiscent of 4144 Shenandoah, one of the “Four Sisters” on the corner of Shenandoah and Douglas in University Park. This home at 4676 Lorraine Avenue is designed along the length of the lot to allow sunlight to easily penetrate the home from two directions. You will enjoy the compositional series of the home clad in irregular cut stone that further treats us with rectangular and cylindrical beautifully detailed stone chimneys. You will also see a further series of wood details that include the bracketed eaves, the diagonal geometric pattern screen on part of the porch and the turned wood Texas-style porch columns with a classical inspiration.

With every expected Dilbeck feature on both the exterior and interior, this may be the most historically intact representation of Dilbeck’s interior design work.
